Article: Basic Life Support (BLS)

Cardiac arrest and no breathing can happen to anyone, in anywhere, and anytime. First aid in this condition is very important of course to restore cardiac function and to keep oxygen circulation on the brain. When we talk about emergency in cardiac arrest, it is regarding with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Call emergency system, and automatic external defibrillator. That all including in basic life support (BLS). Do you still remember the basic life support?

Basic life support (BLS) is the efforts being made to help victims with life threatening because of no breathing and cardiac arrest. What will you do if you find the victim suddenly unconscious? What is steps of basic life support? Now, we review together the steps of BLS algorithms below.

Chain of Survivalis a five-step process for providing treatment to victims of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). As medical provider, we should understood these steps because apply internationally in cardiac case. Early recognize cardiac arrest and access to inform if we find the victim, perform CPR as soon as possible, apply AED device early if available, advance cardiac life support by advance medical team, and advance care post resuscitation cardiac arrest.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure performed in an effort to manually preserve intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in cardiac arrest. Early CPR after finding the victim with cardiac arrest. CPR (in adult victim) combining of three components are Airway, Breathing and Circulation. Correct position when performing CPR determine the quality of compression and ventilation provided. Five cycles in CPR (30 compression: 2 ventilation) will be affect Physical of helper if helper in incorrect position.

Automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portableelectronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiacarrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardiapulseless, and is able to treat through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm. As a paramedic, AED of course familiar for us. In public placessuch as stations, airports, shopping centers haveen countered AED device. So, as paramedic should already know how to operation of the AED. Remember cardiac arrestcan happen anywhere andinone of whichis the BLS algorithm immediately ge tthe AED.
